- This feature is currently in Beta. You may expect updates, and changes to accessibility or pricing as we refine and enhance it. We value your patience and welcome any feedback you may have. Thank you for being an early adopter!
- This feature is only available in the Enterprise Plus plan.
- This can only be done by an Admin.
Custom Permissions allow admins to precisely control what actions each user role can perform in Manatal. This helps teams delegate operational responsibilities without granting full access, reduce bottlenecks, and better reflect real-world team structures - especially for scaling, mid-market, and enterprise organizations. The feature is designed to give admins flexibility while maintaining security and governance.
What are Custom Permissions?
Custom Permissions allow administrators to:
- Define which actions each user role is allowed to perform
- Fine-tune permissions per object (e.g. Jobs, Organizations)
- Empower non-admin roles to handle day-to-day operations independently
Instead of relying purely on rigid, predefined roles, admins can tailor permissions to match how their teams actually work, without exposing sensitive system or billing settings.
Which roles are supported?
Custom Permissions can be configured for all existing system roles, including:
- Admin
- Manager
- Recruiter
- Consultant
Creating entirely new roles is not supported in the current version. Admins can customize permissions within the existing roles.
Which objects are supported?
In the current version, Custom Permissions are available for the following objects:
- Organizations
- Jobs
Support for additional objects will be added incrementally based on customer feedback. If you see a permission you require for your daily business, please let us know your feedback via support@manatal.com.
What permissions can be customized?
For each supported object, admins can configure permissions such as:
Organization permissions
- Create organizations
- Archive organizations
- Transfer organization ownership
- View and manage job requisitions
Job permissions
- Create jobs
- Archive jobs
- Transfer job ownership
- Publish jobs to the career page and free job boards
Each permission is evaluated at three levels to allow granular control:
- Object Owner: A user who is an owner of a job/organization.
- Object Team Member: A user who is a team member of a job/organization.
- Object Non-Team Member: A user who is neither a team member nor the owner of a job/organization.
Getting started with Custom Permissions
Step 1: Open Roles & Permissions settings
- Head to the following page. Alternatively, click on "Administration" from your side menu, open the "Account and Users" category.

- Click on the "Roles & Permissions" category.

Step 2: Select a role to customize
- Choose the role you want to modify.

Step 3: Configure permissions
Review the list of available permissions for the specific role.
- Enable or disable actions per object as needed.
- Save your changes.

Once saved, the updated permissions apply immediately to all users assigned to that role.
The display shows 3 levels of permission enablement:
1. Light Grey toggles: These are permissions that are set as default and cannot be customized.
2. Blue highlighted toggles: Indicates the customizable permission is enabled (meaning this role does have the permission to perform the action).
3. Dark Grey toggles: Indicates the customizable permission is disabled (meaning this role does not have the permission to perform the action)

Use cases
1. Enable managers to operate without admin dependency
Admins can allow managers to perform the following actions without granting access to sensitive admin-only areas:
- Transfer ownership
- Archive jobs or organizations
2. Support non-standard team structures
Admins can:
- Allow sourcing or sales teams to create and manage records
- Restrict access to exports, billing, or system-wide settings
This ensures diverse teams are onboarded with exactly the right level of access.
Availability & limits
- This feature is available on Enterprise Plus plan.
- Other plans can view the permissions but will not be able to save the customized permissions without upgrading to Enterprise Plus plan.
- There is no limit on how many permissions can be customized per role.
FAQ
Q1. Can I create new custom roles?
No. The current version allows customization of existing roles only.
Q2. Is there a limit to how much I can customize permissions?
No. Admins can customize all available permissions for each role without restriction.
Q3. Are permissions extendable in the future?
Yes. The permission system is designed to be extensible. New permissions and supported objects will be added based on customer needs.
Q4. Do permissions interfere with my organization's visibility settings?
No. Custom permissions are a layer of actions users can perform. The visibility settings are not impacted by the custom permissions. For example: If a user does not have access to an organization or visibility, they will not be able to use the custom permissions on the given organization.
